Each Faculty will run an information session that will explain the process in detail.  These sessions will outline the revised procedure and explain the new application process and committee structures. In addition, the sessions will provide prospective candidates withFaculty-specific advice.
Key speakers at these sessions include Professor Ross Coppel (Director of Research & Deputy Dean, Research) and Professor Wayne Hodgson (Deputy Dean, Education), as well as successful promotion candidates who will discuss the expectations and requirements in their particular discipline and share experiences and strategies for promotion.
Important procedural information and changes new to the 2015 promotional round will be outlined by our Workplace Relations team.

The information will be relevant for staff wishing to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer (Level C), Associate Professor (Level D) and Professor (Level E).

Prospective candidates are strongly recommended to attend a session to ensure the best possible chance of preparing a comprehensive case for promotion.

The purpose of the information sessions is to provide prospective candidates with Faculty-specific advice, for example:
  • the expectations and requirements of candidates within their particular discipline (including reference to the performance standards);
  • the importance of providing evidence of the quality, productivity, development and impact of achievements in the areas of Research / Education;
  • the need for preparation/planning ahead;
  • key dates of relevance; and
  • providing comprehensive information and evidence that supports the candidate's stated achievements and the allocated weightings.
We hope to see all academic (teaching and research, education-focused and research only) staff intending to apply for promotion this year, or in the foreseeable future, at one of the above mentioned sessions.

Academic Promotion Information Session for Women

As a result of the University's strong commitment to improving the gender balance of those who gain academic promotion, there will be a promotion Information Session for all female academic staff. The session will include a panel of guest speakers who have been successful with their promotion applications in previous years and/or have experience on promotion committees. Female candidates are still encouraged to attend their Faculty-based session for specific advice however.

The session is scheduled to be held on Tuesday 17 March 2015 from 10:45am – 1:00pm in the Council Chambers, Chancellery Building A, Building 27, Chancellor's Walk (formerly Building 3A).
