SCS end of year drinks and nibbles, 20 December

SCS staff are invited to our End of Year Drinks and Nibbles 10am - 12pm tomorrow (Thurs 20th) in the Surgery Seminar Room, level 5, Block E to celebrate the achievements of all staff and students this year.

The Program aims to support research that addresses questions that focus on the comparative effectiveness of health services and areas of health system practice with low or insubstantial evidence.

Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) Million Minds Mission - APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN

The Million Minds Mission grant opportunity aims to support multidisciplinary teams of researchers to undertake collaborative, intervention-focused research that is transformative, scalable and demonstrates the greatest impact on health outcomes and translation into policy and/or practice. The grant opportunity will provide up to $25 million over five years to support three initial priority areas for research:

Changes to ROPEs in ARC Discovery Projects


The ARC recently announced a big change in the way research outputs will be entered in ARC Discovery Project 2020 applications.  Instead of uploading PDFs with lists of outputs, all research outputs will now be auto-populated from data imported into each researcher's RMS profile.  This change is mandatory and applies to both Chief Investigators and Partner Investigators.  

2019 Women in Leadership Awards

SCS-led team receives VC Award for Research Enterprise

A research team led by Professor Marcel Nold from the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health (SCS) and Hudson Institute has received Monash University's Vice Chancellor's Award for Research Enterprise in recognition of their collaboration with pharmaceutical company Roche to develop better treatments for a range of inflammatory diseases.

Monash research to benefit patients with aggressive lymphoma

Monash researcher and haematologist Dr Gareth Gregory has been awarded a prestigious Sylvia and Charles Viertel Charitable Foundation Clinical Investigator Award to further his research into aggressive lymphoma. 

Australia’s first industry standard biobanking facility will soon be up and running in Melbourne.

Biobanking Victoria will open at Monash University in Clayton in 2020, thanks to a $1.5 million funding allocation from the Victorian Government.  Read more here.

10,000 Step Challenge winners

Congratulations to the MMC winning team of this year's Monash 10,000 Steps Challenge.  "The E- Block 5", comprising Poh-Yi Gan, Virginie Oudin, Daniel Koo Yuk Cheong, Kim O'Sullivan and Anne Le, clocked up the most steps and  Daniel Koo Yuk Cheong won the best MMC individual trophy.

What Is Happening?
·         The shuttle bus to the Browns Road South car park will start its Afternoon run late on Thursday December 13.
·         Normal service start time will resume from Friday December 14.
How Will This Impact Me?
  • Staff who park in the Browns Road South car park will need to walk to and from MMC until the bus commences service from 4:30pm on Thursday December 13.
What About Safety?
·         Take appropriate precautions when walking on public footpaths and roadways, looking to ensure driveways and roads are clear before crossing.
·         Cross any roads at an appropriate location where you will have a good view of oncoming traffic from all directions.
·         Refrain from using any portable audio technology (mobile phone, music player etc.) which may distract you from hearing traffic whilst you are crossing roads or driveways.

Outstanding research supervision recognised at SCS

Dr Connie Wong from the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health (SCS) was recognised as an outstanding research supervisor, being named a finalist in the Monash Postgraduate Association’s Supervisor of the Year Awards last week.

Outstanding biological psychiatry research at Monash University

NHMRC Survey coming - Investigating Clinician Researcher Career Pathways Project


The NHMRC have invited Monash to participate in stage 2 of the Investigating Clinician Researcher Career Pathways Project, a survey of Australian clinician researchers. 

Reactivation of the Scopus import into Pure for Research Outputs

Pure has the functionality to run an automated search of Scopus to look for outputs that are available in Scopus but not currently entered in Pure. In the past, the search criteria was not as robust as it should have been, resulting in numerous import errors that caused problems for individual researchers and central teams. The decision was made to switch off the automated search, so as to not interfere with the preparation and submission of ERA 2018.

NHMRC Development Grants now open


The development grants scheme provides financial support to individual researchers and/or research teams to undertake health and medical research within Australia at the proof-of-concept stage that specifically drives towards a commercial outcome within a foreseeable time frame.
